inventing a building which can manage disasters!

 What: Building which can deal with an earthquake and a tsunami



When: begin to invent from now and complete by the time a big earthquake attack Japan



Where: build in Japan



Who: people who live in Japan, especially live near the sea or a river



Why: In Japan, a lot of earthquakes happen every year, and sometimes an enormous earthquake strike Japan. From the past, many people have suffered and have been killed by earthquakes or a tsunami occurred by the earthquakes. We have to work out the measure to protect ourselves lives. Then, the building which we are going to invent is the best solution.



Background: It is said that Japan is one of the country which undergoes a lot of earthquakes in the world and is the country which suffer tsunamis the most times in the world. In fact, earthquakes occur almost every day under Japan and the area near Japan, if including small ones. Moreover, there is no place in Japan which isn’t attacked by an earthquake. According to the date of this 10 years, excepting 2011, 1000-3200 earthquakes happened every year. In 2011, there were more than 10000 earthquakes happened.

People live in Japan have been damaged by earthquakes and tsunamis occurred by them. For example, in 2011, a big earthquake happened under the pacific ocean near East Japan. The disaster caused by this is called “the Great East Japan Earthquake”. This is the biggest earthquake which have ever damaged Japan, and killed more than 15000people. 90% of them were drowned, and most of other people were killed by rubble floated by tsunami.  If the buildings had been able to avoid the shock of the earthquake and the tsunami, many of them were alive now.

So, we hit upon this idea!



How: Today usual building can’t fly. So a big swing which earthquake makes destroys the building. Also usual building is too heavy not to float on the water. But the building which we hit on is covered by very light and soft material like superball. The material includes bubbles. And we can control the quantity of the bubbles and the position of them. When swings happen, we control the bubbles, the building can jump during earthquake. If big tsunami attacks, the bubbles support the building, at last, the building never sinks under the tsunami. So what are in the building such as computers, papers, of course, people are safe.   Furthermore, as the material is so light, even though the building is high and falls down, the damage might be minimum and the victims must be few. Moreover, the building is soft, people in outside can catch it. If people crash the floating building, they may have injury. If the idea were held, in addition to the office building, we could devise the idea to house and school, all of building. Also we can think that the idea can be useful when tornado happen. So the idea can be also used in the country which earthquake doesn’t occur.
